For some of our properties, you can apply with us directly. For other properties, we do not accept direct applications from prospective residents – instead, we work with more than 60 referring social service agencies who refer prospective residents to us.

Our mixed-income properties do not require a referral from a partner agency. For these rental units, when available, we advertise directly on rental websites, such as Facebook Marketplace and RentFaster.

Seniors self-contained independent housing

Seniors self-contained, independent housing is available to those individuals meeting the eligibility criteria. Inquiries may be made at livewithus@onwardhomes.ca.

Affordable housing - through agency
referral

To become a resident in one of Onward's affordable housing properties, individuals can be referred by one of our social service agency partners.

Eligibility

Mixed-income - without agency referral

Applicants are able to live independently. Applicants can apply without agency referral. Mixed-income market units, when available, are advertised on rental websites, such as Facebook Marketplace and RentFaster.

Seniors self-contained independent housing

Applicants must be below the Core Needs Income Threshold . Priority is given to applicants aged 65+. Waitlist priority is determined by an applicant’s need for subsidized housing (not first-come, first-served). Rent is based on 30% of gross income and rents are reviewed annually. Security deposit is required. Rental payments must be made by pre-authorized debit.

Affordable housing - through agency referral

Applicants must be below the Core Needs Income Threshold . There are a number of units for those exiting homelessness and accessible units. Multi-bedroom units are designated as family units. Security deposit equal to one month’s rent is required. Rental Payments must be made by pre-authorized debit.

Affordable housing through agency referral - how it works

We have nearly 2,000 apartments across more than 30 buildings in Calgary.

Why do we use this process? We believe that success starts with the right home and appropriate wrap-around supports. We provide stability through an affordable home. Our partner agencies are experts on social supports. Together, we work to ensure residents receive what they need to achieve long-term success.
